Participating in natural disasters

Umthombo Wokholo charity is pro-active in supporting and working with other charities that are involved in providing emergency response work for Natural Disaster Relief. As a small charity we are learning fast on how emergency response work whether its natural disasters, wars and civil unrest which creates famines and homelessness. Our response is mostly through donations and volunteer work for the affected communities.

Overseas Aid and Famine Relief

Our Charity has a general charitable mission Overseas Aid and Famine Relief. Umthombo Wokholo donated children’s toys to Dingulwazi Day Care based in Plumtree City in Zimbabwe. Toys are more than just fun and games for kids. Most toys provide at least some opportunity for children to learn. The best toys engage a child’s senses, spark their imaginations and encourage them to interact with others. It is the same principle that we encourage within our Sunday School classes.

Feeding the homeless

Umthombo Wokholo will be embarking on an ambitious programme to feed the homeless in our Leicester community. This is about compassion and following in Jesus footsteps and sharing food with Him when He is hungry.  There are always opportunities to share good food and good news with your hungry neighbour. Our call in 2020 is to start our own feeding ministry.

Our ministry is currently talking to business owners who own grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations and many others that would be perfectly willing to give us food in addition to what our church members would have cooked at home for the homeless.

Burial Society

A burial society is a form of friendly society. These groups historically existed in England and elsewhere, and were constituted for the purpose of providing by voluntary subscriptions for the funeral expenses of the husband, wife or child of a member, or of the widow of a deceased member.

Our society was established to cater for our members in providing financial assistance during death of a member or their immediate family. This includes financial assistance for repatriation to overseas without asking the state for any assistance. If you want to know more about our Burial Society, please do not hesitate to send us an email.
